DIY - Geometric Photo Art
Need something to spice up your shelf? How about a Geometric Artwork made from your favorite photo? This DIY project is completely free and all you need can be found around your house.
What You Need
1. Photo Frame - Any old frame will do. A simple black one works the best.
2. Scissors and Glue
3. Background Paper - This paper of choice will peep through the gaps of your photo. I chose this brown paper because it's a great contrast color and I happen to have it laying around the house.
4.Geometric Template - I made this template in Photoshop. Feel free to download here.
5. Photo of Choice - This photo is from my recent blog post Faux Fur Coat Love. Feel free to check it out.
You can actraully print out the photo with the template on the back side. It makes everthing easier.
The size of the frame should be bigger than the photo so that there's enough space for the gaps. The photo I'm using measures 8x11 and the frame measures 11x14.
1. Prepare the Background
Use the glass inside the photo frame as a size guide to cut out a background. Tape it to the glass. Make sure when you put the glass back the tape won't show through.
2. Cut & Arrange
First, make sure you numbered all the pieces before cutting. This photo consists of 88 pieces and you don't want them to mix together without a number.
I suggest arranging the pieces first to see how much gap work the best with the space you have. Get a feel for the spacing both horizontally and vertically.
3. Glue Glue Glue
Now you can glue everything to the background. I use a q-tip to apply glue to the small pieces. Do not apply too much glue and make sure cover all the pointy parts. Also if you numbered your pieces from the left side, the first piece actually goes to the right side when gluing. Feel free to draw down some guidelines with a pencil. This process may take a while, be patient and keep gluing.
4. Clean Up & Assemble
After finished gluing, just clean up unwanted lines. The last step is to put the finished artwork into the frame and you are DONE!
